I am in the Arrow Leadership Program and we had Eddie as a speaker last year. He was a great speaker and had some important challenges for the church. I don’t agree with all he says but they are important issues. Have you read his book Emerging Churches and if so, what did you think?
I haven’t read any of his books, but having heard him I plan to. His talks yesterday were pretty good offering a good analysis of postmodernity and postchrisendom. Unfortunately I am going to miss the rest of his sessions due to illness.
I am sorry to hear that you are not feeling well. You can find my thoughts on his book here: http://1peter315.wordpress.com/category/emerging-church/
I think the emerging church is an interesting experiment that helps the traditional church to know what is negotiable but I do not think that it is THE future for the entire church.
I will take a look at your blog, thanks. In the Uk, esp as part of a church which has a parish system, it does us well to remember that we are not, as yet, in a fully post-christendom society. The mainline churches in the UK still have their place, although they are rapidly losing it.
It is interesting to hear Eddie say that he no longer users the phrase ’emergent’- this is perhaps, as others have also found, it has been highjacked from those who are not within orthodoxy, even a generous, eceumenical, orthodoxy.
